Nominations
will be taken for the 2008 Aplington Citizen of the Year from April
1st through May 30th.
Stop by Aplington City Hall, Lincoln Savings Bank, Aplington
Library, Dean’s Grocery and For Heaven’s Sake to fill out a
nomination form. The award will be given out during Aplington Days
on Monday, June 9th in the Aplington City Park.

Each sheet is $5 and has 10
tickets. Rides take 2-4 tickets

Pool Survey Coming Soon!
On April 15th the City
will be sending out informational brochures about a proposed pool
project for the community. Included with the brochure will be
survey for all residents to fill out regarding your thoughts on
the project. The city council members will be coming door to door
the week of May 1st to collect these surveys. If you have any
questions on this project contact a city council member or Jenny
Troyna at 319-404-2502.

Appliance Disposal is April 28—May 1st. Please stop by
City Hall to fill out a form with your payment by
Friday, April 25th. Upon paying for your appliances you
will be issued a yellow slip, this is required to be taken with
your appliances. If you do not pay for your appliances or do not
have a yellow slip, they will NOT be accepted.
Monday-Thursday, April 28th—May 1st from 7:30
am—4:30 pm, appliances are to be taken to the
site north of the City Garage (Ellis Street), they will NOT
be picked up. Please call City Hall with questions.
2008 Miss Aplington Contest
Young ladies between the ages of 16 and
20 who reside in the Aplington-Parkersburg Community School
district and are Aplington residents are eligible
to participate in the 2008 Miss Aplington Contest. The contest is
held each year in conjunction with the Aplington Days celebration.
Each contestant is sponsored by a local businesses or service
organizations. The contestants are judged on
beauty, charm, poise, personality, civic awareness, attitude and
leadership.
Sponsorships are due to Laci Mulder at Lincoln
Savings Bank by May 15th, 2008.
2008 Aplington Pool Rates
The Aplington Pool is scheduled
to open June 7th. Pool Memberships are being collected at the
Aplington City Hall until May 30th.
Rates are as follows:
(pending City Council approval on April 9th)
Family Membership (up to 5 people) $45.00,
additional tags over 5 are $5.00 per person.
Individual Membership $30.00
Daily Rates: $2.00 per person 2 yrs. and older. Under age 2 free.
Anyone entering the pool area must pay the daily
rate even if you don’t swim.
Pay your membership at City Hall by May 30th and
pick up your tags.
After May 30th memberships can be paid at the
ARC and an additional $10 will be added for Family and Individual
memberships.

Garage Sales will be held Saturday, June 7th 8:00
am – 12:00 pm.
Entry forms are
available at Aplington City Hall. The cost is $5.00 per entry and
forms are due to City Hall by 4:30pm on Thursday, May 29th.
There will also be a Goodwill truck at the City Park on June 7th
from Noon to 2:00 pm for collection.

Aplington’s Idol……..
Ok—The snow has finally gone and soon, very
soon, it will be time for
Aplington
Days! A new twist on entertainment
this year will be vying for the title of “Aplington’s Idol”.
Fifteen talent acts will perform for Monday
night’s entertainment. From these fifiteen acts, seven will be
chosen by a panel of judges
for Tuesday night’s
finale. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three places. 1st
place $200, 2nd place $100 and 3rd place $50. Each entry will ned
to fill out a form, along with a $10 entry fee. These can be be
picked up and returned to Deb at City Hall by May 29. If more than
fifteen acts are entered,
there will be a preliminary “show down” on the preceeding
Sunday. The contest is open
to anyone. However, we do ask that at least one member reside in
the A-P school district.

Aplington.
